Australian Alliance for Animals (‘Alliance’) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you in respect of how we manage your Personal Information.
By using the Alliance website, donating to the Alliance and/or signing up to our mailing list, you consent to our Terms of Use and the terms of this Privacy Policy.
What is personal information and why do we collect it?
Personal Information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Examples of Personal Information we collect include, but are not limited to: names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers.
This Personal Information is obtained in many ways including, but not limited to, via correspondence, email, our website, from cookies and from third parties.
Please note that we do not guarantee authorised third parties or websites linked from our site, and we are not responsible for their privacy policies and practices.
We collect your Personal Information for the primary purpose of conducting our activities as a national charity. For example, we may use your information for the purpose of inviting you to participate in a campaign or for recording your support for a campaign.
We may also use your Personal Information for secondary purposes closely related to the primary purpose, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use or disclosure.
When we collect Personal Information we will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it.
Mailing lists
We store Personal Information in email mailing lists (‘Alliance mailing lists’) via the Alliance website hosted by Squarespace.
We will never add your personal information to Alliance mailing lists without your express consent.
You may unsubscribe from our mailing lists at any time by contacting us in writing, or by selecting ‘unsubscribe’ on our EDMs.
Alliance for Animals mailing list
By signing up to the Alliance for Animals Mailing List, you agree to receive electronic communications from us.
Any member of the public may sign up to the list.
You may unsubscribe from the list at any time.
Your information will be stored and used in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
#FairGoForAnimals mailing list
By signing up to the #FairGoForAnimals Mailing List, you agree to receive electronic communications from us in relation to the #FairGoForAnimals campaign.
We will not distribute fundraising communications via the #FairGoForAnimals Mailing List.
Any member of the public may sign up to the list.
You may unsubscribe from the mailing list at any time.
Your information will be stored and used in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Organisation Network mailing list
By signing up to the Organisation Network Mailing List, you agree to receive electronic communications from us.
Only members of the Alliance for Animals Organisation Network may receive Organisation Network Mailing List communications.
You may unsubscribe from the list at any time.
Your information will be stored and used in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Donations
Donations and associated Personal Information submitted to the Alliance are processed via external fundraising platform Raisely and payment processor Stripe.
The Alliance makes every effort to protect your Personal Information and payment information managed by these external systems, and donation payments are protected by industry best-practice encryption technology. However, as these sites are not under the direct control of the Alliance, we cannot guarantee their security (see further: Terms of Use).
Donors will receive communications from the Alliance in relation to their donations. They will only receive further communications about Alliance news if they choose to opt-in to the Alliance Mailing List (see ‘Mailing lists’ above).
Sensitive information
Sensitive information includes information or opinion about such things as an individual's racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record or health information.
Sensitive information will be used by us only:
For the primary purpose for which it was obtained;
For a secondary purpose that is directly related to the primary purpose;
With your consent, or where required or authorised by law.
Third parties
Where reasonable and practicable to do so, we will collect your Personal Information only from you. However, in some circumstances we may be provided with information by third parties.

Your Personal Information may be disclosed in a number of circumstances including the following:

Security of personal information
Your Personal Information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
We do not however guarantee security of any information transmitted to us via online platforms, and we are not liable for any unauthorised access to your information resulting from such transmission. We will however notify you if we are made aware of a data breach.
When your Personal Information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify your Personal Information.
Access to your personal information
You may access the Personal Information we hold about you and update and/or correct it, subject to certain exceptions. If you wish to access your Personal Information, please contact us in writing.
In order to protect your Personal Information we may require identification from you before releasing the requested information.
Maintaining the quality of your personal information
We will take reasonable steps to make sure that your Personal Information is accurate, complete and up-to-date. You may contact us to update your information.

Complaints about Alliance fundraising are handled in accordance with our Fundraising Complaints Policy.
