Inquiry into Ending Live Sheep Exports by Sea Bill 2024

Submission overview

The Australian Alliance for Animals welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Export Control Amendment (Ending Live Sheep Exports by Sea Bill 2024 (the Bill). This submission is made on behalf of our six core member organisations – Animals Australia, Humane Society International Australia, World Animal Protection, FOUR PAWS Australia, Compassion in World Farming, and Voiceless, the animal protection institute.

Our submission outlines the key reasons why the Alliance strongly supports the Bill. It addresses the fundamental animal welfare problems that have not and cannot be "fixed", the overwhelming public support for ending the trade, and the in-depth report made by the Independent Panel, which reinforces the viability of transitioning to processed meat exports, which offer greater economic stability and align with ethical standards.
